Tank-truck industry
optimistic, Tank Transport
Trader survey shows
More than 70 percent of tank-truck industry professionals believe
their industry will improve in 2012,
according to a survey by Tank
Transport Trader magazine.
This fall the magazine asked 3,800
transportation executives if they
thought conditions will improve in
their industry next year, and if they
intend to expand operations.
“In both cases the answer
was overwhelmingly positive,”
said publisher Gary Hightower.
“Expectations may well exceed reality
next year, but it is positive news
that so many companies are feeling
confident to the point they hope to
expand operations. Our data, although
limited, matches what other studies
are showing. If an economy cannot
move forward until employers are
ready to push it forward, this is good
news for everyone.”
Tank Transport Trader asked
company leaders eight questions
relating to company operations in
2012. Of those who responded, 38
percent identified themselves as
transporters, 30 percent said they
were manufacturers, and 29 percent
said they were vendors.
Asked whether their industry will
strengthen or weaken next year,
71 percent of respondents said the
industry will be stronger. Another
9 percent expected conditions to
deteriorate, and 14 percent said they
were uncertain.
The survey then asked respondents
how much the industry might grow.
Among those who expected the
industry to improve, the highest
percentage, 24 percent, said they
expected a growth rate of 1 to 2
percent; 20 percent expected a growth
