NPGA selects officer
The board of directors of the
National Propane Gas Association
(NPGA) recently has elected Denis
Gagne, vice resident of Wholesale
at Eastern Propane Gas Inc, as the
organization’s national treasurer.
Gagne has served in a variety
of leadership positions with the
organization, including the executive
committee, propane supply and
logistics committee, and the
technology standards and safety
committee. In his role as treasurer,
Gagne will be responsible for
overseeing the organization’s budget
Gagne is a 50-year veteran of the
propane industry with experience in
almost every facet of the business. In
addition to his role as vice president
of Wholesale, he leads Eastern’s
business development team and is an
active member of the Propane Gas
Association of New England.
Gagne joins a slate of national
officers. NPGA elevated Jerry Brick
of North Star Energy in Aberdeen
N.D., to the position of chairman
of the board; Chris Earhart of
Dixie Gas and Oil Corp. in Verona,
Va., as chairman elect; and Randy
Thompson of ThompsonGas in
Frederick, Md., as vice chairman.
Each officer will serve a one-year
term in their positions
Stuart Weidie of Blossman Gas
in Asheville, N.C., now serves as
immediate past chairman.
Rick Roldan, NPGA’s president
and chief executive, said: “Propane
is clean American energy that
supports local economies and fuels
our modern way life. Each one of
these officers knows what it takes
to grow a business, and they have
been advocating for policies to
help propane marketers across
the country for decades. As the
association continues its strategic
planning process, their combined
experience will benefit all NPGA
members and help the association
continue to advocate for the
policies that advance propane in
Panel opposes biodiesel
The U.S. International Trade
Commission (USITC) determined
in December in a unanimous vote
that the U.S. biodiesel industry is
materially injured by biodiesel imports
from Argentina and Indonesia, which
the U.S. Department of Commerce
previously determined are subsidized.
As a result of the USITC’s affirmative
determinations, the commerce
department will issue countervailing
duty orders on imports of biodiesel from
Argentina and Indonesia.
“This unanimous vote is important
progress to addressing the harm by
this unfair trade on biodiesel,” said
Donnell Rehagen, chief executive of
the National Biodiesel Board (NBB).
“U.S. energy policy sought to create
a level playing field for domestic
and imported biodiesel, but foreign
government subsidies have made it
nearly impossible for U.S. producers
to compete. We are gratified that
countervailing duty orders will
contribute to leveling the playing
field such that the domestic industry
has the opportunity to produce at the
levels it knows it can.”
The NBB Fair Trade Coalition
petitioned the U.S. government early
in 2017, initiating simultaneous anti-
dumping and anti-subsidy cases
against Argentina and Indonesia.
